Chickpea Artichoke Tapenade Balls (GF & V)

For a truly unique culinary twist, our second savoury ball of our 5 Days of Holiday Balls features a tapenade that can either top crackers, cucumbers, tomatoes or can be served alone. This versatile little ball blends chickpeas, artichokes, lemon and basil with ground walnuts to create a beautiful synthesis of flavours. Surprise your guests with this little number over the holidays and enjoy!

Serves: 40+ 1/2 inch balls
Prep time: 10-15 minutes
Chill time: 15 minutes


1 clove of garlic minced
1 can chickpeas
1 jar marinated artichokes (170 ml)
2 Tbsp artichoke marinade
1/2 c fresh basil
1/2 lemon juiced
1 c walnuts or almonds


  1. Drain and rinse the chickpeas before putting in a high-sped blender. Pulse until a smoother texture is achieved.
  2. Add all the remaining ingredients except the walnuts and pulse until all of the ingredients are blended together.
  3. Empty out the tapenade into a bowl and place in the fridge for 15-20 minutes. Add walnuts (or almonds) into the blender and pulse until the nut has broken down into a powder with very tiny bits.
  4. Remove the cooled tapenade from the fridge and mix in the crushed nuts. Roll out tiny balls. Serve as is or on top of crackers, cucumbers or sliced tomatoes. Feeling really festive? Try topping these tapenade balls with roasted cranberries. Delicious!
