Healthy Chocolate Date Truffle Balls (GF & V)

To kick-off our 5 Days of Holiday Balls we present you with a perfect guilt-free, gluten-free, vegan dessert that will satisfy any sweet tooth. With only six ingredients and the option to create two different flavours -coconut or chocolate- these holiday balls require little prep time and can easily be whipped up for a dinner party, potluck or hostess gift. 


Serves: 15-20 balls
Prep time: 15 minutes
Chill time: 10-15 minutes


1 1/4 c dates (soaked in warm water for 20 minutes)
3/4 c almonds
2 Tbsp almond milk
1 1/2 Tbsp ground flax seed
1/2 cup shredded unsweetened coconut (plus more for rolling)
2-4 tbsp cocoa powder (plus more for rolling)


  1. Process dates in a food processor or high-speed blender. Then add almonds, ground flax and almond/coconut milk. Blend until mixture has become a relatively smooth paste (I like to leave some little chunks of almonds).
  2. Finally add coconut and pulse a few more times.
  3. If you’d like to have 2 kinds of truffle balls take out half the batter and roll small 1 inch balls in shredded coconut. With the remaining half of the batter, stir in 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder into the mixture. Then roll 1 inch balls in cocoa powder.
  4. For those of you chocolate lovers out there who just want one kind of truffle, add 4 tablespoons of cocoa into the mixture and roll small 1 inch balls in cocoa powder. Place in the fridge for 10-15 minutes or more. These refrigerate very well and can easily be made a day or two ahead of time.
